Notes/Comments:
Kerberos was developed by the Massachusetts's Institute of Technology as part of the Athena Project, started in 1983. At that time MIT decided to integrate network computers. MIT had received funding from both IBM and Digital Equipment Corporation and was running multiple operating systems from numerous vendors. The objectives of Athena were the integration of a SSO (Single Sign-on), networked file systems, a unified graphical environment, and a naming convention service.
